How do you make digital marketing add up for businesses? Well, you select the channels that drive the most demand. That’s exactly what we did for one of our accounting clients, and now we have a nomination for Small SEO Campaign of the Year to top it off.
With the task of building the business’s client base in the capital and driving quality leads, we honed in on our local SEO skills to make the biggest impact quickly.
In order to position the brand as the go-to accountant in London, organically, we first focussed on the technical fundamentals of the website to create a fast and clean site that would give visitors a good first impression. As well as fixing internal linking issues, improving page speed, and tidying up content by removing cannibalisations, we also worked on UX and CRO, removing blocks and making it easier for visitors to make an enquiry and get in touch. This improved conversions quickly, driving much-needed leads.
Once the site was in a good place, we started looking at keywords to drive more traffic to the site. We conducted in-depth research and keyword mapping that would bring key decision-makers to the website.
To further drive local leads, we also made several changes, including:
- redirecting local pages to one main landing page
- building citations to improve local ranking results
- adding local business Schema markup to branches
- continued optimisation of the London Google Business Profile and reformatting of location and branch information
In less than 18 months, we, amongst other things:
- Increased ‘London’-specific keywords by 10.5 positions between December 2022 – April 2024
- Increased the number of keywords on page 1 from one in December 2022 – 20 in April 2024
- Increased ‘London’-specific keywords in the top 100 from 14 in December 2022 – 51 in April 2024
- Grew site page views from 78.1k to 95.2k and sessions from 60.1k to 82.1k
- More than doubled completed enquiry forms
- Achieved position 1 for their holy grail keyword ‘accountant London’ in the map pack.
- Ranked position 1 for three London keywords, including the competitive ‘accountant in London’.
And, of course, the biggest win for us is a happy client.
Beth Nash, founder of Smart Monkey, said, “Our recent pivot to being solely a B2B agency is because of results like this. The team truly understands what is needed to make B2B companies thrive in the SERPs and drive value.
“This client is just one of the many success stories we have on our roster with the team continuing to drive forward growth for businesses within professional services, B2B, tech, and SaaS.”
This nomination is the latest in a long list of accolades for us; we’ve had an incredible 2024 so far, winning numerous awards this awards season for our B2B work across SEO and digital PR. We’ve also recently launched our new brand.
